The Starries - The years are hers EP (7")This is The Starries' third release after split singles for Fierce Panda (2000) and Bearos Records (1999). The band had taken a six-month break and returned with a new drummer and this harder, more focussed sound. The band has had ample opportunity to reach a wider audience with dates with Seafood and The Parkinsons as well as touring with Idlewild.
Their chaotic early live shows led Simon Williams, then of the NME, to write that if the nascent Idlewild had sounded like a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs then The Starries "must surely be akin to Idlewild falling down a flight of stairs, falling off a mountain."
Stevie Chick in the NME review of the Fierce Panda compilation single, Cutting Hedges, said: "The highlight is The Starries' remarkable Beauty Scars, which is fractured, melodic hardcore with a voice that sounds like Bob Mould at his most ragged."
This release sees their sound come of age and their reputation cemented as
the accessible side of the Birmingham Emo-core scene.
